I'm most prone to do that when I get bored, which is my state of mind this moment.
I remember calling a friend of mine awhile back. His name is Neil and we used to hang out quite a bit, talking books, music, etc.
About five years ago, I called him at a college in Florida where he was a professor. I didn't know what to expect. Either he'd be like, "Why are you calling me?" or "Hey, it's great to hear from you."
Instead, it was a long pause, then a slight chuckle, and, "The boredom does get to be too much sometimes, doesn't it?" We talked a bit, e-mailed once or twice, and that was it. (Neil once traded me a virtual library of his books for a toilet plunger when he was moving).
It's not that I'm really bored. It's great hanging out with my 16-month-old son Cooper. But sometimes the days do pass slowly now that I'm out of the working world.
Let's see, let me grab some old yearbooks and see who I can call ...

I know what you're saying. I did check out the site and it has a lot of interesting forums. I particularly like the book discussions. But it's sometimes hard enough for me to just do a blog posting. I'm not one to stay on a message board all day. I'll definitely check it out from time to time though and may throw in my 2 cents.
